The 28-year old has become a fan favourite at Ibrox.

Rangers captain Lee Wallace has spoken of his disbelief at a gesture from the Ibrox crowd during the 3-0 win over Livingston last week, in quotes published by the Daily Record.

The 28-year old has achieved cult hero status at the club for sticking with them through the drop down the divisions, and his award of captaincy this season has only added to his profile.

A huge banner bearing the name and image of the former Hearts man was unveiled against Livingston, and he duly responded with a great strike to put Rangers into the lead.

“It was unbelievable,” said Wallace. “I was lucky enough to score the first goal that day, through a few bodies, then I had to applaud the fans for the banner because I was really taken aback by it.

“When I saw it and I heard the crowd, it was just phenomenal. I never expected that in a million years, to be honest.

“The adrenaline I got from the goal and seeing that banner unfurled was superb.”

Wallace has been one of the club’s standout performers this season – no mean feat in a Rangers side who still boast a 100% start to the season – and has truly embraced his new role as skipper.

Goals have been an unexpected addition to his game and he’s currently sitting on four Scottish Championship strikes – a tally already higher than he’s achieved in any season in his career to date.

His form is indicative of the positive impact made by Mark Warburton’s arrival and should he maintain it over the coming weeks and months, his Ibrox banner may just become a permanent fixture.
