Rangers captain James Tavernier is sure that his team will pick up all three points this weekend if they play to their capabilities, speaking to rangers.co.uk earlier today.

After picking up a League Cup win on Wednesday night, Steven Gerrard’s side will be looking to make it five wins in a row across all competitions.

Aberdeen will provide one of their toughest tests of the season so far though and showed last term they are more than capable of winning, even at Ibrox.

Tavernier though is feeling bullish about the home side’s chances of victory.

As quoted by the official club website, the defender said: “It is just a matter of who turns up on the day and who performs to their best. If we perform at our best and I am sure my team will get the three points.

“If you look at the cup games, we conceded two set pieces, they have a great aerial threat but I believe we have definitely improved since then.

“You know they are going to be tough when they come to Ibrox; they are going to try and silence the crowd, try and get in our faces and man mark us. If we play and stick to the right game plan and be confident on the ball then we will create a lot of chances.”

A defining game for this season’s Rangers team

Last year’s struggles against Aberdeen became a key failing of Gerrard’s first season in charge of the team. Not only did the club get put out of both cup competitions at the hands of Derek McInnes’ men, but forced them to drop costly points in the league too.

This Saturday’s match will be a big measure of how far Rangers have come since then.

Tavernier is of course going to have belief in his team, but he’ll have to back up his words with a big performance, because recent history suggests this isn’t going to be an easy match for Rangers even if they perform to their best.

Come the final whistle, Rangers supporters will likely know a lot more about the current state of Gerrard’s project than before kick-off, positive or negative.
