Mark Warburton claims Adam Armstrong won’t be heading to Ibrox this summer.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has told The Scottish Sun that Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong won’t be joining the club this summer.
The Gers kept up their superb start to the Scottish League Cup, as having won their first four games by scoring ten goals and keeping four clean sheets, Rangers were again in the goals against Peterhead on Tuesday night.

Rangers hammered Peterhead 5-0 at Ibrox and kept another clean sheet, with striker Joe Dodoo finding the back of the net as he grasped his chance in the absence of injured striker Martyn Waghorn.
Waghorn’s injury – a possible hamstring strain – could see him miss a number of games, and with Rangers looking for another striker regardless, the Gers have been linked with a move for Newcastle’s Adam Armstrong.
The Scottish Sun reported on Tuesday morning that Rangers were hoping to land Armstrong in a season-long loan deal after he scored 20 goals on loan at Coventry last season, with the 19-year-old allegedly being lined up for a move to Ibrox.
Newcastle United’s Adam Armstrong in action
After Tuesday’s game, Warburton was asked by The Scottish Sun about a possible deal for Armstrong, but the Rangers manager made it clear that Armstrong won’t be signing for Rangers this summer.
Warburton stated that, whilst he thinks Armstrong is a ‘very talented player’ and admired what he achieved with Coventry last season, he isn’t a player that will be signing for Rangers before this month’s transfer deadline.
Adam Armstrong celebrates scoring for Coventry
“He’s not for us. He’s a very talented player — but he’s not coming to Rangers,” said Warburton. “If we took everyone in that we are linked to we would have a squad of 75 players. He’s a very talented player and I know how well he did at Coventry,” he added.
A new striker remains Warburton’s priority, as Waghorn could be on the treatment table for a while whilst veteran striker Kenny Miller looked sluggish against Hamilton – and whilst it may not be Armstrong, it would be a huge surprise to see Rangers not sign a striker this month.
