Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has told his latest press conference that he has held talks with Ibrox striker Alfredo Morelos – after leaving the Colombian ace out of his Rangers side in recent weeks due to fitness and attitude.
Morelos, 26, has managed just five substitute outings this season – although he did score in a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock. In his side’s five Champions League games this term, Morelos hasonly been used once, as a sub against Union SG.
The Colombia international is set to see his deal expire at the end of the season. He had been left out, not just because of Antonio Colak’s form, but because van Bronckhorst was not impressed with his level of fitness – or his attitude.
But ahead of Wednesday night’s second group game against Napoli at Ibrox, van Bronckhorst delivered a boost to Rangers fans. He said that Morelos is fitter, and in a better head space, after staging talks with the ex-Helsinki man.

“Alfredo (Morelos) is in a good place mentally and physically, he is training really well and I have had a good conversation with him. He is in a far better place and makes it difficult for me to decide on my starting team.”
van Bronckhorst has held talks with Rangers striker Morelos
With Rangers still reeling after two 4-0 defeats to Celtic and then Ajax, they need a spark from somewhere. Morelos is the man capable of providing that. He posted an Instagram story last week, and he did look in much better nick.
Now, should he start against Napoli? Probably not. But he is in with a shout of certainly getting decent game time. Van Bronckhorst will know what he can do, especially on the European stage. He is the club’s all-time top-scorer in Europe.
Certainly, he should get at least the last 30 minutes for Rangers on Wednesday night. Colak is a good striker but a Morelos in good form is a different beast, he takes the Gers to a whole new level.
