Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the Scottish Herald that he has not spoke to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp since he bought Ryan Kent this summer.

Klopp came out and suggested that he wanted Gerrard to replace him at Liverpool, when he does leave.

The comments left the Rangers chief feeling very honoured, but Gerrard says that he hasn’t had a conversation which prompted Klopp to make such a statement.

“No [I haven’t spoken to Jurgen this week]. I sent him a message after he won his Fifa award in midweek but I haven’t spoken to him for a few weeks. The last time was about Ryan Kent,” the Rangers boss said.

“His comments are obviously flattering from my point of view.

“But for me, as a Liverpool fan, if I’m correct in what he said, it was ‘if I get sacked today’. Well, Jurgen isn’t getting the sack!”

There does already appear to be an air of inevitability about Gerrard leaving Rangers for Liverpool at some stage of his career, but that could be years off yet.

Jurgen Klopp manager

Klopp is doing a wonderful job at Anfield, and still has years remaining on his current contract with Liverpool.

Gerrard also seems fully focused on his task with the Light Blues, with the Scouse manager making no secret of his desire to deliver silverware to Rangers.

Gerrard has helped Rangers improve since arriving at Ibrox, but they have received no tangible recognition for their progression yet.
