Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told BT Sport that the injury suffered by Ibrox defender Borna Barisic against St Johnstone is serious.

Barisic started for Rangers in their Scottish Premiership game against St Johnstone away from home on Sunday afternoon.

The 26-year-old left-back suffered an injury towards the closing stages of the first half and was substituted in the 41st minute.

Rangers manager Gerrard has admitted that the injury suffered by Croatia international is serious, and the Liverpool legend has also said that he is disappointed.

Gerrard told BT Sport when asked if Barisic’s injury is serious: “Yes.”

When asked if he is disappointed, the former England international said: “Very.”

Barisic joined Rangers from Osijek in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £2 million.

The 26-year-old left-back has made eight appearances in the Scottish Premiership for the Gers so far this season, providing three assists in the process, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The defender’s season has been affected by injury, and the latest one he suffered against St. Johnstone on Sunday afternoon will come as a bitter disappointment to him and to Rangers.
