Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told BBC Sport that Joe Aribo has the world at his feet, and his comments underline just what Celtic have missed out.

Gerrard raved about Aribo following the 23-year-old midfielder’s performance for Rangers in their Scottish League Cup tie against East Fife at the weekend.

The youngster was superb for the Gers in the middle of the park and also scored the third goal in the Scottish Premiership club’s 3-0 win.

After the match, Rangers boss Gerrard spoken highly of Aribo, and the Liverpool legend will know a thing or two about midfielders.

Gerrard told BBC Sport: “He can go as far as he wants. I hope he stays alongside me for many years, but he’s got the world at his feet.”

Gerrard’s aforementioned comments show just how good a player Celtic reportedly missed out on.

Before joining Rangers on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 following his departure from Charlton Athletic in England at the end of last season, Aribo was linked with a move to the Gers’ bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The Daily Mail claimed of interest in Aribo from Celtic, but in the end, it was Rangers who secured the services of the 23-year-old midfielder.
