Glasgow Rangers were linked with a move for Nathan Dyer.

Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard distanced the club from speculation linking Nathan Dyer with a transfer to Ibrox in late August.

The Scotsman reported Gerrard saying Dyer was not on his radar, despite reports in The Sun claiming he was. Rangers deciding not to make a move proved the boss correct.

Three months on, Gerrard’s decision appears to have been a smart one, for a couple of reasons.

Firstly Dyer remains on the fringes at Swansea, playing only one Championship game all season.

The 30-year-old winger is hardly showing Rangers up.

But the biggest reason is the development of Rangers winger Glenn Middleton.

Middleton has stepped up from the academy and filled the void left by injured attacker Jamie Murphy. The teenager has five goals already this season.

New signing Eros Grezda is finally beginning to deliver, with a brace against Motherwell at the weekend.

Teenager Serge Atakayi finally made his long awaited first team debut at the weekend too, and looked like a real threat.

Rangers really did not have any need for Dyer despite Murphy’s injury and Gerrard was right not to rush into a move.
