Connor Goldson has been slacking for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard told BBC Sport that his players ‘failed miserably’ following Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Dundee.

Gerrard’s side played with one man extra for some 71 minutes but could not break down the Premiership outfit at Dens Park.

He didn’t mention him by name, but the Rangers boss will have been particularly upset with centre-back Goldson.

The towering defender was at fault for the Gers’ opening goal and what a statement Gerrard could make tonight by dropping the £3 million signing.

Rangers visit Rapid Wien in a must-win Europa League clash and the 38-year-old can show his ruthless streak for perhaps the first time in management by axing Goldson.

Gerrard also said: “I’ve been giving players chances and maybe that needs to stop because they’re not really taking them.”

Goldson has been particularly poor in recent weeks and if the Blues boss drops him, his most expensive summer signing, then that’s a huge kick up the backside that the rest of the squad will feel.

Gerrard is right. His Rangers players are letting him down more and more each week, be it individual performances or ill discipline, but something needs to change and dropping Goldson might well be the catalyst for that.
