Rangers boss Steven Gerrard makes prediction about Ryan Kent

Kent has impressed since his loan move from Liverpool to Rangers.

Steven Gerrard has been quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account in his pre-Motherwell press conference on Friday that he believes Ryan Kent will find the back of the net sooner rather than later.

The 21-year-old winger has impressed in his six appearances for the Scottish giants since completing a season-long loan move to Ibrox from Gerrard’s former club, joining Ovie Ejaria in the process.

Kent’s skill and pace has wowed Ibrox fans but he is yet to add that end product to his game in a Rangers shirt, failing to score and producing only one assist in six league and cup outings.

Gerrard believes Kent, as well as teammate Ejaria, have settled well into life in Glasgow, and predicted that it is only a matter of time before the former Bristol City and Barnsley loanee finds the back of the net for Rangers.

“I didn’t expect them to settle so quickly,” Gerrard said, on both Kent and Ejaria. “I thought it might take two or three months for them to settle into the city. They’re both young lads, coming away from their families to live alone.

“Kent has settled really quickly. He’s doing both sides of the game really, he’s defending well. Tactically he’s very clever, which people might not realise and he also gives us an unbelievable threat with his pace and skill.

“A little bit of luck hasn’t gone his way in terms of getting a goal but I think it’s really close.”

10 games into Gerrard’s reign and Rangers boss, the Gers have kept six clean sheets and conceded only four goals, picking up six wins in the process. It leaves the Light Blues just one game away from the Europa League group stages.

Rangers’ attention turns to the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, as they travel to Fir Park to take on a physical Motherwell side in their third league game of the season before a gruelling trip to Russia to face Ufa again on Thursday.

Then, it is the big one. Rangers play Old Firm rivals Celtic at Parkhead on September 2, with Gerrard going up against his former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.
