Rangers have gone 19 points clear in the Scottish Premiership under Gerrard

Steven Gerrard is already considered a legend at Liverpool, and he’s capable of adding to his legacy with success in the Anfield dugout.
That’s the view of club legend Phil Thompson, who has been impressed with Gerrard’s performance as manager of Rangers.
The Ibrox side went 19 points clear in the Scottish Premiership title race on Saturday when they secured a 1-0 win over Celtic, and few would now bet against Gerrard ending Celtic’s dream of securing a historic tenth title in a row.
There are no signs of Jurgen Klopp, who has won the English Premier League and Champions League in his time at Liverpool, leaving Anfield any time soon.

That hasn’t stopped Thompson speculating about his eventual replacement, and he believes Gerrard is capable of mirroring the Ibrox to Anfield move made by Graeme Souness in 1991.
Speaking on Paddy Power’s From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, Thompson said: “If it was good enough for Graeme to get his first managerial job at Rangers and then get Liverpool off the back of it, I would think Steven’s got a fair chance of succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
“Rangers were in a better position when Graeme went in there than what they were under Stevie.

“Stevie took on a very difficult job at Rangers. It wasn’t easy going in there with the success of Celtic.
“I feared for him because I thought they were so far behind that it would take five to seven years before you could change things.
“But Celtic got a bit sloppy and Stevie has recruited very well. So he’s obviously the one that comes to mind when it comes to the next Liverpool manager.”
Klopp is under contract at Anfield until 2024.
