The former Rangers favourite returned to Ibrox in January but has struggled to secure a place in Steven Gerrard’s team.

Steven Gerrard has confirmed his decision to drop Steven Davis for Rangers’ trip to Aberdeen was down to ‘personal selection’ and was not injury related.
Davis failed to make the 18 for Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final, which Rangers drew 1-1.
The Southampton midfielder returned to Ibrox on loan in January, six-and-half-years after he moved in the opposite direction.
But Davis’ second Gers spell has not been quite so successful, and he has only started four of a possible 11 games for Gerrard’s side.
When asked, however, if the Northern Ireland star could be recalled for Rangers’ trip to Hibernian on Friday, amid concerns over Ryan Jack’s fitness, Gerrard told the club’s official Youtube channel: “Well we’ll make decisions after training today.

“We’ve still got some preparation and an important session to get through so we’ll see who comes through healthy and who’s available, then we’ll make selection in terms of 11 and 18
“But I still haven’t made decisions in certain areas of the team just yet.”
Gerrard revealed that Jack is still sore after picking up a knock at Pittodrie, and said he will assess the situation after speaking with the player later on Thursday.

Davis, who turned 34 in January, is out of contract at Southampton this summer, and it remains to be seen whether Rangers will offer him a contract.
