Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are sweating over Jamie Murphy’s injury.
Steven Gerrard has told Rangers TV that Jamie Murphy is very upset after his injury against Kilmarnock on Sunday.
Alfredo Morelos grabbed a hat-trick as Rangers won 3-1 at Rugby Park to reach the next round of the League Cup.
But the victory was somewhat marred by the first-half injury to Murphy.
The Scottish winger fell awkwardly on Killie’s artificial pitch and was replaced by Daniel Candeias after only 17 minutes.
The 28-year-old must wait to discover the full extent of the problem, but Gerrard claimed to Rangers TV that he is already fearing the worst.
“He’s very low at the moment, he’s down and upset, and you can understand that.
“He’s concerned that he’s going to be out for a long time, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed and pray, and hopefully he can get some good news when he’s assessed and he has a scan on it.
“But whatever happens we’ll give him the support he needs – he’s a top player, a big player for us and we’ll do whatever we can to get him back as quick as we can.
Losing Murphy for a long period of time would be a massive blow because, as Gerrard said, he is a “top player”.
But if there is a positive for the Blues, it’s that the injury happened before the transfer window closes, giving Gerrard time in which to sign a covering option.
