Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor, who joined Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club in the summer of 2018, has decided to retire from Scotland duty.

McGregor, who returned to Rangers in the summer of 2018 on a free transfer for his second spell at Ibrox, decided to retire from Scotland duty this week.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper had been playing for his national team since 2007 and won 42 caps.
Rangers manager Gerrard, who was appointed in the role at the Gers in the summer of 2018, has admitted his surprise at the decision from the former Besiktas and Hull City goalkeeper.
Gerrard told Rangers’ official website about McGregor: “I’m sure Alex is disappointed and his teammates because he is a top goalie.
“I was only aware of it in the last few days and I was a bit surprised, but obviously having spoken to Allan now I respect his decision and we move forward.”
Positive for Rangers
McGregor has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for Rangers, and the 37-year-old’s decision to call it a day with Scotland can only be good for the Gers.
After all, the goalkeeper can rest and relax during the international breaks, and then return to action for Rangers refreshed.
Rangers are eight points behind leaders and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment.
