Glasgow Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha speaks highly of Ibrox forward Martyn Waghorn.

Martyn Waghorn was a key player for Rangers during the 2015-16 season, as the Gers gained automatic promotion from the Scottish Championship to the Scottish Premiership.

Waghorn was one of Rangers’ best players and scored goals left, right and centre for the Ibrox outfit in 2015-16, having signed by Mark Warburton, who is now in charge of Nottingham Forest in the Championship in England.

The 27-year-old forward, though, failed to make a huge impact for Rangers last season, as the Gers finished as low as third in the Scottish Premiership.

According to a report in The Daily Record last month, Waghorn is considering his options and is willing to leave Rangers in the summer transfer window.

However, could the former England Under-21 international remain at Ibrox after all despite the competition he will face?

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha’s recent comments show just how highly the Portuguese coach rates the former Sunderland and Leicester City forward.

Perhaps they are an indication that despite his less than impressive performances last season, Waghorn does have a future at Rangers.

“Martyn is a hard worker who always gives his maximum,” Caixinha told The Scottish Sun in regard to Waghorn scoring in Rangers’ 2-1 victory over Premier League club Watford in a closed-doors friendly on Wednesday evening.

“He is a guy we like a lot and it is always important for the strikers to score goals to get their confidence levels up as well.”
