Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter is still ‘in pain’, according to manager Pedro Caixinha.

Any faint hopes Jordan Rossiter had of returning for this weekend’s Rangers match with Celtic appear to have been dashed.

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha told the club’s official website that Rossiter’s ongoing injury was no closer to healing and he is not in the club’s current options.

Rossiter is not even in training, the Portuguese boss confirmed.

Caixinha said: “Jordan Rossiter still has some pain on the knee so he still can’t train with the team and is not in our options.”

Rossiter’s debut season at Ibrox was stunted by injury and this season has seen more frustration for the youngster.

The 20-year-old has played just nine minutes of football in the league this season, and completed 90 minutes of action on another occasion in the League Cup.

Rangers are sitting five points behind Celtic heading into this weekend’s Old Firm fixture, and Rossiter will have to watch on from the stands.

The England youth international arrived with high hopes when Rangers signed him from Liverpool in 2016, but he is missing far too many games than he would wish for at this stage.
