Rangers manager Michael Beale has applauded Celtic defender Josip Juranovic in his post-match press conference for helping Croatia reach the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar – claiming it is great for Scottish football.
Beale got off to a winning start in his first match as Rangers manager, coming from behind twice to win 3-2. The Gers went behind to Ryan Porteous’ header, and then after Fashion Sakala’s goal, Kevin Nisbet made it 2-1.
But class shone through and Rangers went on to win 3-2. Ryan Jack and Malik Tillman made it 3-2 to the Gers. Following the match, Beale was in a good mood in his press conference, as Rangers claw Celtic back to six points.
At least, for the weekend. He spoke about Borna Barisic in being unavailable – but applauded the Rangers defender and then Juranovic for helping Croatia reach the last four of the tournament. Croatia were beaten 3-0 by Argentina.
“Borna goes away. World Cup semi-final so well done to him, and to Croatia. And to Juranovic, it’s great for Scottish football to have two players involved in that level of the World Cup – but that gave an opportunity to young Adam.”

Rangers manager Beale has applauded Celtic defender Juranovic
It is an astonishing achievement for Celtic and Rangers to both have players involved in a World Cup semi-final. But it must be said that Barisic has only played a bit-part role in Croatia’s campaign. Juranovic has been instrumental.
Not surprising, then, that £17m-rated Juranovic is being linked with a January exit at Parkhead. Clubs from all over Europe are interested. Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, in Spain; Newcastle, Chelsea, and more in English football.
Celtic have already replaced Juranovic with the signing of another World Cup right-back in the form of Celtic’s Alistair Johnston. So, while Celtic did have a World Cup semi-finalist, it looks as though it might not be for long.
