Rangers boss Mark Warburton suggests Harry Forrester’s ability’s not the reason for his lack of starts

Harry Forrester has started just seven times for Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton has suggested that if his team selections were solely based on quality, Harry Forrester would get into the starting line-up on a regular basis, the Daily Record reports.

Forrester has made 15 appearances in the Scottish Premiership this term, but has started just seven times and was an unused substitute during the Gers’ Scottish Cup victory over Motherwell on Saturday.

And interestingly, Warburton – who signed Forrester last January having worked with him previously at Brentford – hinted that there is something about the 26-year-old’s game that he is not entirely convinced about by suggesting that he has no concerns about the former Doncaster man’s ability.

“Harry has all the ability in the world but he has to be more consistent,” he said, as reported by the Record.

“With the talent he has, he should be a starter. But there are reasons why he isn’t.

“He has to be better than the players currently in the team. We have options and that’s the challenge for him.”

Unfortunately for Forrester, his route to a regular place in the Ibrox first-team has become a little more congested with Warburton bolstering his midfield options with the loan signings of Jon Toral and Emerson Hyndman.

And with Hyndman impressing and bagging the assist for the winning goal on his debut, Forrester may need to step up all areas of his game if he hopes to force his way back into Warburton’s plans in the near future.
