Rangers manager Mark Warburton has told The Daily Record that there is not a massive gulf between his side and Celtic.

The Gers are playing in the Scottish Premiership this season after winning promotion from the Scottish Championship with ease at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Many are expecting Rangers to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title this season.

The Ibrox outfit had a chance to make a statement of intent on Saturday afternoon when they took on Celtic in the Old Firm derby.

Rangers suffered an embarrassing 5-1 defeat to the Bhoys at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic were much better than Rangers, but Warburton has claimed that there is not a big gulf between the two teams.

“My job is to ask ‘Who would I take from their squad and swap?’” Warburton told The Daily Record. “And I don’t see a major gulf there.

“We got beat 5-1 so they have the bragging rights and deserved to win – but there’s no major gulf between us.”

Rangers have a good squad, but it was clear on Saturday afternoon that Celtic are much better.

The Gers’ start to the 2016-17 Scottish Premiership campaign has not been great, and Warburton does need to look into it.

Defensively Rangers have looked vulnerable this season, and that is an area that needs to be addressed.
