Is Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton already thinking about bringing new faces to Ibrox?

Speaking to reporters and quoted by The Glasgow Evening Times, Rangers manager Mark Warburton has revealed that he attended meetings with “London clubs” during the international break to preserve a healthy relationship with the English sides.

The Rangers boss enjoyed a very busy summer on the transfer front by luring no fewer than 11 players to Ibrox.

But if their 5-1 defeat at Celtic in September is anything to go by then the Gers’ squad still needs a bit of work before they can realistically compete with their Old Firm rivals.

But is the 53-year-old manager already looking ahead to January? It is uncertain, but Warburton did tell reporters, via The Glasgow Evening Times, that he returned down South to meet with clubs based in the English capital.

“I had three days at home during the international break and put on about half a stone in weight with some home cooking!

“It was nice to get home because I hadn’t been home for a while and I had a few meetings with London clubs to maintain relationships.

“It’s always nice to speak to other clubs and get different ideas on various aspects but three days at home in my own bed wasn’t a bad thing.”

Although he stopped short of naming the clubs, Warburton appears to have a healthy relationship with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, having previously signed a number of their players on loan.

Dominic Ball played a big role in their promotion from the Championship last term, while Arsenal’s Gedion Zelalem also did his bit, but Ball’s Spurs team-mate Nathan Oduwa saw his loan cut short in January.

Rangers fans will hope that Warburton’s meetings were relating to potential January targets, because they can still get better, but time will tell. His side are fifth in the Scottish Premiership and seven points behind Celtic, who have a game in hand.
