Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers signed Matt Gilks in the summer transfer window.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton has suggested to The Glasgow Evening Times that Matt Gilks could leave the club in the January transfer window.
Gilks joined Rangers in the summer transfer window after leaving Burnley at the end of the 2015-16 season.
The 34-year-old arrived at Ibrox with a strong reputation and with the aim of establishing himself as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.
However, the former Blackpool goalkeeper has struggled for playing time at Ibrox so far this season and has been able to make only five competitive appearances.
Rangers manager Warburton has suggested that Gilks could leave the Glasgow giants in the January transfer window.
However, Warburton has made it clear that the 34-year-old will leave only if a suitable replacement can be found.

“There’s a club looking at Matt,” Warburton told The Glasgow Evening Times. “He is an outstanding goalkeeper who trains so well every single day. He’s important to us.”
“As long as we have cover in place [we would let him go],” added Warburton. “Our job is to make sure we have options available that we can access.
“What we can’t ever afford to do is leave ourselves short. We can’t have a player going out and leaving us exposed.”

Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 39 points from 21 matches.
The Gers are 19 points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic, who have a game in hand.
Warburton’s side will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Motherwell at Ibrox in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
