Rangers boss Mark Warburton sees Crooks filling in at Ibrox.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
Rangers boss Mark Warburton has been discussing the future plans regarding the use of Matt Crooks at the club.
The defensive midfielder headed to Ibrox for a tribunal fee from Accrington Stanley this summer but has yet to feature for the Glasgow club.
He has been out of action with an ankle injury since March and is only just now getting involved in first-team training with Rangers.
His return to action will be welcomed, as he can not only play in deep midfield, but at centre-back.
Rangers, who recently missed out in a move for Joleon Lescott, want coverage at the heart of defence and Crooks can do a job there.
Matt Crooks
Warburton is quoted by the Herald Scotland as stating:
“He has had a hard time of it, with the injury and frustration as well. Moving to Rangers and not being able to join in has been hard for him.
“But he has shown a great attitude for a young player. He has worked hard with the physio team and is getting there.
“Matt can play defensive midfield because he is technically comfortable on the ball and sees the game. And he can be a centre-half as well. He is 6ft 4 and a half inches, a huge size.
“He has good physicality and a good spring.”
Crooks has recently made it clear he sees himself as a central midfielder but Rangers may see him as a utility player given their current situation.
The talented player is set to be fit after the international break and Rangers fans and Mark Warburton will be looking forward to seeing him in action at Ibrox as soon as possible.
