Mark Warburton’s Rangers side were 2-1 winners over Aberdeen at Ibrox.

Rangers picked up an important Scottish Premiership win this weekend as they defeated rivals Aberdeen 2-1 at Ibrox.

Mark Warburton’s side proved to be the better of the two in Glasgow with goals from Kenny Miller and Lee Hodson proving enough – despite a late goal from Andrew Considine.

Rangers were after a response following the 2-0 loss to Hearts in midweek and the Rangers boss decided to make some changes for the fixture.

One of those was the introduction of Northern Ireland international Lee Hodson for James Tavernier.

The defender has struggled for regular football at Ibrox since making the move from MK Dons in the summer with Tavernier firmly ahead of him in the pecking order at the club.

However, Hodson proved today that he is more than just a viable back-up option for Warburton and can be a genuine first-team option after a brilliant performance.

He scored in the game and was the man-of-the-match.

Speaking to the official Rangers website after the game Warburton made his feelings clear on the depth of the squad, praising Hodson:

“We won the game of football, I’m not saying that in an arrogant way I mean it’s about the squad.

“No one was dropped, it’s just using the squad. Tav has been nearly an ever-present for 18 months now. Lee Hodson has been outstanding in training. He’s a good international Lee and he stepped in today and got man-of-the-match.”

Going forward Rangers will be very happy to have two good options at right-back for the rest of the season.

It will be interesting to see if Hodson now keeps his place in the Rangers first-team for the time being.
