Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton has spoken on Joey Barton.
Speaking to Rangers’ official YouTube channel, manager Mark Warburton has commented on Joey Barton’s social media activity.
The 33-year-old joined the Gers on a two-year deal after helping Burnley win Premier League promotion last term.
The midfielder has earned a reputation for his outspoken nature on Twitter in recent years.
And the former Newcastle man shows no sign of ceasing on that behaviour after suggesting Celtic were “lucky” to reach the Champions League group stages this week.
At a press conference for Friday’s trip to Kilmarnock, the Rangers boss was asked whether Barton has “free reign” to tweet whatever he wants in a notion which Warburton firmly denied.
“Do you honestly believe a senior professional is allowed to tweet whatever he thinks at a club like Rangers?
“I think a senior professional, who is a very intelligent individual, obviously makes sure his tweets are appropriate for a club of Rangers stature. That’s all.”
Barton has been as influential as expected since joining the Glasgow giants and he will expect to be involved tomorrow for the visit to Rugby Park.
If his social media behaviour does not affect his on-the-field form then Warburton may not have a problem with his online comments, within reason.
