This week has seen Rangers boss Mark Warburton linked with the managerial vacancy at Wigan Athletic. The Championship side sacked Gary Caldwell this week after 18 months in charge at the DW Stadium.

The Sun soon reported that the Gers boss was a shock contender for the role with the Championship side.

Warburton has struggled to lead Rangers to a run of good form since their promotion to the Scottish Premiership and that has seen his position at Ibrox called into question in recent weeks.

But he has made it clear that any potential move to Wigan is news to him.

The Rangers boss has been quoted by BBC Sport as having this to tell the press earlier today regarding the apparent interest from Wigan:

“I’m bemused by the rumours about Wigan.

“I don’t know where these stories come from.”

Some Rangers fans would not have been too disappointed to see the back of Warburton, given some recent results and his refusal to budge on his footballing philosophy.

Others however will not forget he brought Scottish Premiership football back to the Gers and Ibrox. Rangers fans will simply hope that Warburton can start winning more regular games in the weeks to come.
