Rangers defender David Bates could leave Ibrox this summer.

Rangers boss Graeme Murty has told the Glasgow Evening Times that the club are attempting to keep defender David Bates in light of links to Sunderland.
The Gers have been busy bringing in new signings this month, and tonight’s deal for Greg Docherty means it’s now six deals done during the January transfer window.
Docherty follows Russell Martin, Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings to Ibrox, whilst left back Declan John has penned a permanent deal following a successful loan spell from Cardiff City.

Murty saw his new signings feature in a 2-0 win over Aberdeen on Wednesday night, and the attention may now be turning to keeping players at Ibrox.
Speculation surrounds the future of top scorer Alfredo Morelos, whilst the Daily Record claimed earlier this week that Sunderland are lining up a swoop for defender David Bates.
Bates, 21, joined Rangers on loan from Raith Rovers in the summer of 2016, making his move permanent in the last January transfer window as the Gers saw potential in the 6ft 4in centre back.

The Scottish defender has now made 13 first-team appearances for Rangers, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Gers risk losing him for next to nothing if Sunderland swoop.
Now, Rangers boss Murty has told the Glasgow Evening Times that talks have been held with Bates, and the Gers are intent on keeping him at Ibrox rather than letting him move on to Sunderland.
“We’ve talked to David and his reps,” said Murty. “He’s a young man we want to retain,” he added.
