Glasgow Rangers suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Hamilton Academical at Ibrox.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Graeme Murty has told Rangers’ official YouTube channel that he could not believe that Ross McCrorie attempted the back pass that led to Hamilton’s first goal in their surprise win over the Gers on Saturday, but insisted that the home side had enough time to make up for the youngster’s error.

The Light Blues would have gone into the game feeling extremely confident given that they had won their two games leading into the international break and had seemingly developed plenty of belief following Murty’s appointment as caretaker manager.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers vies with Jack Aitchison of Celtic during The Scottish FA Youth Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden Park on April 26, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

However, Accies left Ibrox with the three points as two second-half goals saw them claim a 2-0 win. The first goal saw McCrorie hand former Rangers winger David Templeton a golden opportunity as his underhit backpass played the Hamilton ace through one on one with Wes Foderingham and he took full advantage of the chance.

And while Murty has looked to defend the young centre-back, he also expressed his surprise at the fact that McCrorie tried the pass.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“He’s a young player, players make mistakes. He needs to learn from it, I can’t believe he actually made that decision but it’s the decision we have to move on with. There was more than enough time in the game to go and get something from the game,” he told Ranger’s official YouTube channel.

“And I thought that everyone, myself, the crowd, the players all got a little bit frustrated at that time and then became a little bit frantic which is understandable but we have to be better than that.”

As Murty alluded to, Rangers had more than enough chances before and after the goal to turn the game on its head if they had been more lethal in front of goal – so it would be incredibly unfair to simply blame McCrorie for the defeat.

But Murty will be certainly hoping that the 19-year-old learns from the mistake and it helps him as he tries to ensure that he makes the most of this current run in the first-team.
