Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Ibrox new boy Fashion Sakala will link up with his Gers teammates in the next few days as he promised more recruitment to his Scottish champions.

The Light Blues returned to training on Monday with Nnamdi Ofoborh joining the squad for the first time and Gerrard pushing his players harder than ever as they look to turn title 55 into 56.

Fans have been excited about the arrival of Sakala since his pre-contract move was agreed earlier this year and he could make his first appearance when the Gers head south to face Tranmere in a pre-season friendly.

Gerrard thinks his squad is in good shape but vowed there will be more new faces to come with the recruitment team at Ibrox going flat out to strengthen the squad.

“We’re actively working ever so hard to bring some good players in alongside the recruitment that’s already been done in Jack (Simpson), in Scott (Wright), in Nnamdi (Ofoborh),” Gerrard told Rangers TV.

“Fashion Sakala will join us in the coming days, we’ve got some passport and Covid issues to get through first but he’s very excited to join us as well.

“The squad’s in good shape, it’ll be better in the coming weeks when we add to it. It’s a very exciting time but the message to send to our supporters is that myself, my staff and everyone around this group of players are going to push them even harder than we have done before to make sure we try and add to the success.

“55 isn’t gone now, it’s history. Which is fantastic.”

Gerrard also hinted at a new signing in the “coming days” as the Gers squad goes through their paces at Aucnehowie, claiming the Gers were “really close” to making their third signing of the summer.

“The board and Ross know the players I want to strengthen us and make us better and give us the best chance to be successful next season,” he added.

“Hopefully we can go and deliver them. We’re really close on one piece and hopefully in the coming days we’ll have an announcement for the fans.

“I like to get them excited this time of year , they’ve been patient. There won’t be wholesale signings because the squad is strong and good. We’ve brought some good additions in six months ago so we’re looking for quality rather than quantity at this stage.”

Hard work starts now for Rangers after winning 55

Last season’s title success was a huge moment for Rangers as they ended the club’s decade-long wait for major silverware but the hard work really starts now for the Gers.

With Champions League qualification and a bigger target on their back domestically than ever before, Rangers simply can’t afford to stand still this summer.

The additions of Sakala and Ofoborh will add something different to the Gers’ squad but the risk of potential departures like Alfredo Morelos and Glen Kamara has Rangers fans wanting more signings in soon.
