Rangers manager Steven Gerrard reflects on Ryan Kent deal.
Steven Gerrard has told Rangers’ official website he was willing to accept another loan deal for Ryan Kent.
Kent signed for Rangers on transfer deadline day in a permanent deal from Liverpool.
It followed a protracted summer of negotiations, which left Kent in limbo.
Gerrard was delighted to land Kent on a permanent move, but said he would have settled for a loan.
Liverpool were keen to get a fee for a player, and got their way.
But Gerrard only had praise for his former club. Ultimately he has got a better deal than the one he was prepared to accept.
He said: “We would have taken a loan – of course we would have. But to have him on a permanent deal and to have him find a home, I am delighted, I know the fans are delighted and I know everyone connected to the club is delighted to have him here, not just for a short time but for four years.
“It is fantastic for everyone.”
Kent’s desire to make the move to Rangers also helped the move get over the line.
He was a popular player on loan last season and his return to Ibrox has given the Gers a lift at a key time, after the recent Old Firm defeat.
It would have been better if Rangers had Kent earlier, but at least they have him now.
