Rangers boss Caixinha names the Premier League manager who has helped him with Ibrox job

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has spoken to compatriot Jose Mourinho about his job at Ibrox.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has told The Scottish Sun that he has been receiving advice from Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho about his job at Ibrox.

The Gers chief came under pressure over the summer after Rangers’ disastrous Europa League exit at the hands of Luxembourg’s Progres Niederkorn, but he is working his way back into the good books with fans.

Saturday’s 4-1 win over Dundee saw goalscoring sensation Alfredo Morelos continue his superb start to life at Ibrox with two more goals, with midfielders Josh Windass and Carlos Pena also finding the back of the net.

It’s now three wins, a draw and a defeat from Rangers’ five league games this season, and there are flickering signs that Caixinha’s side are on the right track after a summer of change.

Caixinha changed around half of his squad having brought in 11 new signings over the summer, whilst the likes of Philippe Senderos, Clint Hill, Andy Halliday, Michael O’Halloran, Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner all left Ibrox.

Whilst Caixinha looks to be moving in the right direction, he does have another manager to call on for help – Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’.

Caixinha has known compatriot Mourinho for some time now, and the Rangers boss has revealed to The Scottish Sun that he has been speaking to the United chief for advice of late.

Caixinha revealed that he believes he is on the right track after speaking to Mourinho, admitting that his advice has really helped him get to grips with the job at Ibrox, often speaking about ‘direction and conviction’.

“Talking to him totally confirmed my belief that I’m on the right track, especially because first of all he is the best. You need to look for the best,” said Caixinha. “If you ask me which manager you would call to discuss football and training then it’s him. There was a time when I was an assistant and looking for knowledge and making sure I was heading in the right direction, that I spoke with him regularly but not any more.”

“Now my time is overloaded but whenever I do need to speak to Jose I go directly to him. He is the only one in football — there is no one better. His advice has helped me totally. We speak more about direction and conviction — how to be convinced about the methodology you use and the way you use it,” he added.
