Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has warned Gers fans they’ll need to be “patient” after the signing of Juninho Bacuna from Huddersfield Town was confirmed last night.
The Gers landed the 24-year-old Curacao international as Gerrard looks to bolster his side’s title defence and is excited to see what he bring to the Rangers side.
Gerrard called the Dutch-born midfielder a “really big talent” as he expressed his delight at getting a deal over the line but confessed that his lack of football recently means he’ll have to take his time integrating him into the side.
“Bacuna is a really big talent,” Gerrard said.
“He hasn’t played a lot of football recently so we need to be patient. I’m really looking forward to seeing him play, an attacking midfielder with a great range of passing, if we can give him the tools to evolve he should be a great addition.
“Bacuna will be in for tests today to see where he is at, he is a player the fans will be really excited to watch in action as an attacking midfielder.
Bacuna’s last competitive appearance came in May when he was a late substitute in the Terrier’s 2-2 draw with Reading on the final day of the Championship season.
Bacuna, who was born in the Dutch city of Groningen, has 10 caps for Curacao and represented the Netherland up to under-21 level.
The midfielder started out with his hometown club before moving to Huddersfield in 2018, over 100 appearances for the Terriers and scoring 12 times.
With the midfielder ineligible to play against Alashkert in the second leg of the Europa League playoff, a potential debut against Celtic later this month is a distinct possibility.
This weekend’s game at Ross County is likely to come too soon for him though but the new Rangers number 22 shouldn’t be too far away from his first appearance in blue.
