According to El Deportivo in Colombia, Rangers want to sign River Plate striker Rafael Santos Borre – but the Argentinian side are trying to keep him.
The Gers already have one striker arriving this summer as Fashion Sakala has signed a pre-contract to join from Oostende.
Yet with Porto keen on Alfredo Morelos according to The Sun, Rangers may need to look at other strikers too, with Borre on the list.
Rangers’ interest in Borre
It’s claimed that Rangers fancy signing Borre on a free transfer given that his River Plate contract ends next week.
Currently away with Colombia at Copa America, Borre has a big decision to make. He can leave River for absolutely nothing and pursue success in Europe, or possibly stay at River.
Boss Marcelo Gallardo is believed to be desperate for Borre to stay, and that’s why River are now pushing hard to renew the striker’s contract and keep him out of Rangers’ clutches.
That’s no shock; Gallardo has called Borre ‘very important’ at River, with his influence at El Monumental clear.
The problem is that Rangers’ proposal is believed to be more lucrative than River’s, meaning there is a real fear that Borre could move on.

How has Borre performed for River?
The 25-year-old has had spells with Deportivo Cali, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal, but has really become a hero at River.
Borre has smashed 56 goals and 18 assists in 149 games for River, but after nearly four years with the club, he may feel that it’s time for a new challenge.
Colombian teammate Alfredo Morelos has excelled at Rangers, and Borre may feel he can do the same, with Champions League football at Ibrox surely a huge pull for the striker.
