The Old Firm rivalry won’t stop some Celtic players being friends with those from Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers it seems.
Rangers defender Borna Barisic has revealed to Sportske Novosti that he and team-mate Nikola Katic meet their fellow Croats at Celtic for church every weekend.
Celtic have two Croatian players in the form of Jozo Simunovic and Filip Benkovic, as do Rangers.
They might be enemies in a football sense, but Barisic, a £2.2 million signing by the Gers last summer [The Record], admits that he and Katic socialise with their Parkhead-based compatriots on a regular basis.
He said: “I’m with Nikola Katic every day and I sometimes go for lunch or dinner with Jozo Simunovic and Filip Benkovic.
“And on Sunday, we go to Mass at 9pm to pray in the Catholic Church.”
Barisic and Katic both started Rangers’ 1-0 defeat by the Hoops back in September, but Celtic centre-backs Simunovic and Benkovic were only on the bench.
Benkovic, on a season-long loan from Leicester, was the only one of the four to play in December when Steven Gerrard’s side beat the Bhoys at Ibrox – their first Old Firm win in 13 attempts.
Brendan Rodgers’s side are six points clear of the light Blues in the Premiership, but if Rangers slip up at Aberdeen tomorrow and Celtic beat Hibs at home then that might be it as far as the title race goes this season.
