Rangers are set to welcome back midfielder Ryan Jack to the squad for just the fifth time this season, after the Scotland international posted on Instagram. Rangers play host to Livingston at Ibrox on Wednesday evening.

Jack, 29, has been sidelined for the majority of the past two seasons – featuring just 24 times in 2020-21. The ex-Aberdeen midfielder has been a big miss in the Rangers midfield, playing only three times this season.

After his long-term spell on the sidelines and then a fight to regain full fitness, the Record reported that Jack was set to be included in the matchday squad on Wednesday night. It is unlikely he will start.

But Jack has now taken to Instagram to all but confirm that he will be in the matchday squad to take on Livingston. He posted a picture on his Instagram story alongside the captain “game day”, ahead of this evening’s clash.

Jack post on Instagram: No.8’s return is a huge boost for Rangers

The Gers do have cover for Jack in midfield – the likes of Glen Kamara, Steven Davis, Leandro Bacuna and summer signing John Lundstram being used in the middle of the park. But Jack’s return is big for Rangers.

Ahead of February 2’s Old Firm clash against Celtic – and the loss of Ianis Hagi for the rest of the season – Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be delighted to welcome back one of his side’s key players from injury.
