Billy Gilmour rejoining Rangers on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in January would be a ‘miracle’ in the eyes of pundit Mark Wilson.

Glimour likely feels like the world is against him at the moment.

The Scottish midfielder chose to leave Chelsea in search of first-team football and joined up with Graham Potter at Brighton.

That seemed like a perfect fit, but just a couple of weeks into his Brighton career, Potter left the Seagulls – and joined Chelsea.

That’s a cruel twist of fate for Gilmour and he has yet to convince new boss Roberto De Zerbi, playing just 12 minutes of Premier League action under the Italian.

Gilmour would be well within his rights to ask for a January loan move away from Brighton.

Teams in the Premier League and Championship will surely be keen whilst there is bound to be interest on the continent.

What about a return to Scotland?

Gilmour came up through the Rangers ranks and was considered to be a wonderkid at Ibrox before leaving for Chelsea in 2017.

Many Rangers fans have wanted Gilmour back on loan for some time now and the idea is being talked about again.

New boss Michael Beale is on board and with Rangers needing some fresh energy in midfield, Gilmour should really be on Rangers’ radar no matter how ambitious a move may seem.

Pundit Mark Wilson – formerly of Celtic – has now offered his view on Gilmour potentially heading back to Ibrox in January.

Wilson has told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, as quoted by the Daily Record, that he thinks Gilmour is an ‘exceptional talent’ who just needs games having been asked about the midfielder possibly heading back to Glasgow.

Wilson thinks that Gilmour’s wages could price Rangers out and believes that a return to Ibrox would be something of a ‘miracle’ signing for Beale and co.

“Maybe,” said Wilson. “Listen, he’s someone with exceptional talent who wants to play. He is finding it difficult at the minute and he’s got to find a home that he can play 30, 40, 50 games without long breaks in his career.”

“He is at a stage now, but he’s at a crossroads. If there was some sort of miracle that Rangers could entice him up to Scotland, I think he would flourish up here. I think he may find it easy to take the ball in tight positions, but the wage he might demand could be out of Rangers reach,” he added.
