Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are now the favourites to sign Hibernian midfielder John McGinn, according to one bookmaker.

According to bookmaker BetVictor, Rangers are the most likely team to sign Hibernian’s John McGinn before the end of the January transfer window, with the Gers listed as the 5/2 favourites for his signature.

McGinn is arguably one of the most talented players plying his trade in the Scottish Premiership currently, and has attracted plenty of attention in recent months, with the Daily Express reporting in the summer that Celtic and Ipswich were keen on him, while The Scottish Sun has linked Nottingham Forest with a move for the Hibs midfielder.

The Hoops find themselves amongst the outsiders to land McGinn, with BetVictor listing Brendan Rodgers’ men at 8/1 to land his signature before the end of the January window. But it is their Old Firm rivals who currently lead the market.

Rangers are listed at 5/2, well clear of anyone else in the betting, which is arguably incredibly interesting given that Hibs boss Neil Lennon suggested earlier this month, as reported by The Scottish Sun, that £5 million would not be enough to lure McGinn away from Easter Road.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Given the transfers that Rangers have done in recent years, it seems incredibly unlikely that they would be able to offer anything like what Lennon is supposedly looking for before he sells his star man.

But there can be no doubt that McGinn would be a tremendous addition to the Gers’ midfield, and according to BetVictor, completely ruling out the possibility of a deal may be somewhat foolish.
