Rangers have decisions to make over their goalkeeping situation – and Barry Ferguson has now backed St Johnstone’s Zander Clark for a move to Ibrox.
Allan McGregor has turned 40 now and is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning his time at Rangers could becoming to an end.
McGregor’s form of late has been up and down too, which may contribute to Rangers’ eventual decision.
Rangers have at least given a new contract to goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin, ensuring that they still have the experienced Scot next season.
The Gers are being linked with numerous goalkeepers, from West Brom’s Sam Johnstone to Schalke stopper Martin Fraisl.
Another name linked with Rangers is Zander Clark, with the Daily Record reporting in November that the Gers were eyeing Clark.
Much like McGregor, Clark is out of contract this summer and will be able to move on for absolutely nothing.
A boyhood Rangers fan, Clark would surely love a move to Ibrox but whether he is really up to being Rangers’ first-choice goalkeeper is another matter.
Clark, 29, has now made almost 200 appearances for St Johnstone and has been around the Scotland squad.
There are doubts about his quality with a team truly challenging at the top end of Scottish football though, with Rangers seeking a quality stopper.
Still, former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is backing Clark for a move to Ibrox, believing he is the calibre of keeper the Gers need.

Speaking to Go Radio, Ferguson suggested that McGregor is still a quality stopper, but he is now advancing in age and may need to be replaced soon.
Ferguson suggested that Clark is performing at a very high level, and should be the man Rangers go for if McGregor calls it a day.
“I can count on one hand the mistakes Greegsy has made over the years. Look, he’s not getting any younger, I know that,” said Ferguson. “He’s 40, but he’s still in good condition. After those mistakes you saw what type of character he is. You saw the performance he had against Celtic because it could have been six or seven without Allan McGregor.”
“He’s not getting any younger but I still think he’s a top keeper and it’ll be up to Allan. He has had injuries in the past. He had a back problem three or four years ago, I know that’s the reason he stopped playing international football. But if he feels he’s up for it he’ll continue for another season. Jon McLaughlin is a really good backup keeper, I really like him. Zander Clark is another, St Johnstone have had a poor season but Zander is still performing at a high level. I’d like to see him stay. He’s old enough to make his own mind up but I still think there’s football left in Allan McGregor,” he added.
