Ibrox hero Barry Ferguson has called Keanu Baccus ‘impressive’ but isn’t sure whether he’s good enough to play for Rangers just yet.

Ferguson was speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on Monday evening, offering praise to St Mirren ace Baccus.

Ferguson admitted that former Rangers teammate Craig Moore has been talking to him constantly about his fellow Australian Baccus.

Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised by that; Moore has been effusive in his praise for Baccus, suggesting that he was ‘unbelievable’ against Denmark at the World Cup.

The ex-Rangers captain noted that Baccus is ‘impressive’ and he has loved watching him play for St Mirren.

However, Ferguson couldn’t commit to Baccus being good enough for Rangers just yet, suggesting that the midfielder still needs to show a little more before an Ibrox move can be touted.

“Oz (Craig Moore) has chewed my ear off about him to watch him and to be quite honest with you, he’s impressive,” said Ferguson.

“St Mirren may struggle to hold on to him. Whether he’s good enough for Rangers or not, that’s to be seen. But he’s certainly impressed me in the games I’ve seen him in for St Mirren,” he added.

Who is Keanu Baccus amid Rangers conversations?

It’s only natural that top Scottish Premiership performers are talked about as potential Rangers signings.

Baccus was born in South Africa but he and his family moved to Australia before he even turned one.

Baccus turned out 106 times for Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League but chose to leave them earlier this year.

After eight years with Wanderers, Baccus chose to leave for St Mirren and that looks like an inspired decision for all.

Baccus has been excelling under Stephen Robinson and his displays in Scotland secured him a spot in Australia’s World Cup squad.

St Mirren now stand to make a huge profit on Baccus and Rangers are surely keeping tabs on his progress.

Steven Davis isn’t getting any younger, Glen Kamara continues to be linked away, Ryan Jack’s future is unclear and loanee James Sands has been used as more of a defender.

There could be room for Rangers to sign a midfielder or two in 2023 and Baccus will be an attractive option if he continues to shine for club and country.
