Rangers legend Barry Ferguson is reportedly poised to become the new manager of recently relegated Alloa Athletic – just days after guiding Kelty Hearts to a historic Playoff win to secure their place in the SPFL.

According to the Daily Record, who Ferguson writes a column for, the ex-Rangers captain will join the League One Wasps as they look to immediately bounce back and return to the Championship.

Ferguson has been at Kelty for just under three years and has taken them from the middle of the Lowland League to SPFL League Two in that time but it appears he feels the time is right for a new challenge.

The former Clyde and Blackpool boss is apparently due to hold talks with Alloa this week but the Record also adds that he could be “swayed” by another SPFL offer.

With few jobs available in the lower reaches of the SPFL at the moment, that only leaves the likes of Falkirk or Dumbarton.

The Bairns would likely be the most attractive of them given their full-time status but there have been a host of other names linked to the Falkirk Stadium.

There could even be the outside chance of Championship Ross County after John Hughes’ departure but it seems the Rangers legend could have his pick of clubs after the impressive job he’s done in Fife.
