Rangers could reportedly accept an offer as low as £2 million for Mark Warburton favourite Barrie McKay – expect Nottingham Forest to pounce.
As any Nottingham Forest supporter will tell you, the club’s recruitment has left a lot to be desired in recent seasons.
16 new faces arrived at the City Ground last season and, in truth, only former Bolton Wanderers favourite Zach Clough could be described as an unqualified success. And, thanks to a transfer embargo, Forest did not spend a single penny in the market during the 2015/16 campaign.
However, with the Daily Record reporting that Rangers star Barrie McKay could be made available for as little as £2 million this summer, it appears that Forest could edge closer to one of the most astute signings in the club’s recent history.
In fact, you could argue that the 22-year-old would represent the club’s most impressive bargain since they paid Sheffield Wednesday just £1.5 million for Michail Antonio in the summer of 2014, as reported by the BBC.
According to the Daily Mail, Forest boss Mark Warburton may jump at the chance to reunite with McKay at the City Ground after making him one of the first names on his team-sheet at Rangers.
With doubts surrounding the future of homegrown Forest favourite Ben Osborn, McKay’s availability could hardly be better timed.
With just a year remaining on his current contract, the fact McKay could be signed for as little as £2 million should only ramp up their pursuit of one of the most exciting players to emerge through Rangers’ academy in recent seasons.
Warburton is clearly an admirer, valuing him at £6 million amid reports of interest from RB Leipzig in January, the Daily Record adds.
Furthermore, with The Mirror claiming that Newcastle are planning to make Osborn one of their top summer priorities after making their interest known in January, McKay would be an affordable and astute replacement.
