Rangers B have continued their fantastic start to the Lowland League season, picking up an eighth win in nine games, thrashing Vale of Leithen this afternoon in Dumbarton.

There were three changes for Rangers B from last weekend’s 3-0 win over Edinburgh University as Kyle McClelland, Mackenzie Strachan and Tony Weston came into the starting XI in place of Leon King, Alex Lowry and Cole McKinnon.

The young Gers, including new signing Juan Alegria on the bench, didn’t take long to break the deadlock as Ross McAusland scored twice in a matter of minutes to fire Rangers into a comfortable position in the sunshine.

David McCallum’s side continued to push forward looking for more goals, Weston and McCausland both having efforts saved.

With the Light Blues already well in control of the game, Arron Lyall made it 3-0 ten minutes before the break with an excellent finish and leave Rangers already out of sight.

As the first-half ticked away, McCausland made it 4-0 Rangers B and sealed his hat-trick, with just seconds remaining in the opening 45.

It was little more than the striker deserved after an excellent first-half performance, throwing the gauntlet down to Alegria in the process.

Rangers B started the second 45 in the same vein as the first and it didn’t take them long to have their first chance to add to the four goals, Lyall going close after some excellent play by McCausland.

It was 5-0 soon afterwards though, the hard-working Tony Weston getting his rewards for another impressive performance when he fired a fantastic finish beyond the Vale of Leithen keeper on 56 minutes.

Weston’s afternoon would come to an end a few minutes later when Rangers made their final change of the afternoon – Alegria coming on for his debut in Scottish football following his move from Finland.

The goals kept on coming for Rangers and it was 6-0 shortly after the hour mark thanks to Aaron Lyall’s second goal of the afternoon.

The midfielder curled home a lovely effort beyond the visitor’s keeper and into the back of the net.

Rangers B kept creating chances and Alegria came close to adding his name to the scoresheet when the debutant picked up the ball just outside the Vale of Leithen box – taking it first time and striking it well but the shot went just wide of the target.

The goal the Colombian was looking for to mark his debut did eventually come though, with the Rangers new boy hitting the back of the net nine minutes from time to make it 7-0.

Seven wasn’t quite enough for Rangers though, Lewis MacKinnon scoring an eighth just a few minutes after Alegria’s maiden strike.

Rangers made it 9 through Alegria to double in the 89th minutes the Colombian’s tally on his debut and level the B teams’s previous biggest win so far this season.

With Bonnyrigg Rose also winning, it leaves Rangers B one point off top with a game in hand but it only seems like a matter of time before the Colts reach the summit.

While it is still very early days so far, there’s an argument quickly forming that even the Lowland League isn’t enough of a challenge for the Rangers B stars.
