Rangers B head coach Davie McCallum has praised his side after they picked up their maiden away win of the Lowland League campaign, making it two wins from two as they kick off their historic season.

The Light Blues followed up the 2-0 win over Bo’ness United at the weekend with a 2-0 win over Spartans at Ainslie Park with Cole McKinnon and Robbie Ure on the scoresheet for Rangers.

McCallum thinks coming up against the experience of a side like Spartans is a “learning curve” for his players but is delighted with the impact they are having on his players, telling Rangers TV.

“These games have been key for us to work on going forward. It’s important for us that we take advantage of these moments to try and up our end product.

“I thought in the first 20 minutes we got a bit impatient because we never managed to get the goal that our early play maybe deserved but that’s a learning curve for us, we might dominate most of the possession throughout the park but when the goal doesn’t come it’s about not changing what we’re doing.”

Rangers dominated much of the game and were deserved winners in the end by McCallum admits he and his players knew it wasn’t going to be easy against one of the best teams in the Lowland League.

Despite controlling plenty of possession, the Rangers B team coach told his side they have to remain patient and keep doing what they are doing as they look to impress in the fifth tier, adding: “We need to recognise that it wasn’t going to be easy. That was the message after the game, we have to remain patient but also believe in the quality that we do have.

“For all the possession that we had, we couldn’t break down what was an experienced backline. It’s about not getting impatient and not changing what we’re doing, we don’t want to rush to escape from the pressure we want to try to invite pressure to where we had the ball.”
