Rangers are adding a game changing winger – shouldn’t Celtic have been looking to do the same?

Rangers are edging closer to sealing a deal or winger Eros Grezda, with Steven Gerrard confirming a move is nearing completion, via BBC Sport.

The winger is going to be an exciting addition for Rangers, as a replacement for Jamie Murphy.

It is a decisive move from Rangers to quickly sign a new winger, something Celtic have failed to do all summer on a permanent basis.

The team is still lacking a replacement for Patrick Roberts, whose lengthy loan spell ended in June, and he has since gone to Girona in Spain.

Celtic have James Forrest and Scott Sinclair as wide players, but beyond that their options are lacking.

Amid the need to sign new defenders, Celtic’s lack of options out wide has become forgotten.

They have done a deal for Australian teenager Daniel Arzani, but he is just on a one year loan deal.

Roberts, while on loan previously, was akin to a permanent Celtic player, spending two-and-a-half seasons at the club.

Celtic needed a more proven option than Arzani at this juncture, and have the Australian international as an extra option.

Rangers are rarely held as the sort of model which Celtic should compliment, but on this occasion it is hard not to assess that their transfer committee has been more decisive, bolder, and busier.

Perhaps there has been an element of complacency at Celtic this summer, and Roberts should have been replaced with a permanent signing.

It puts a lot of pressure on young Arzani, may be Celtic are quietly confident he will find his way, but relying on another loanee is hardly a long-term strategy.
