Rangers are moving closer to completing the signing of Portuguese defender Bruno Alves.
And despite the centre-back being 35-years-old, Alves has been hailed as a ‘world class’ talent by a former teammate.
Retired striker Benni McCarthy told the Scottish Sun that his former Porto pal will make a huge difference to Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers and has plenty left in the tank.

He said: “Bruno has more personality and character than Rangers have had in the last few years.
“Rangers are signing a world-class defender. He is that good — and he will be right up for the fight.
“Bruno has also looked after himself exceptionally well. His body is immaculate. He’ll look the same as he did at 23.”

He will have to be at his best to shut down a talented Celtic team who scored five goals against Rangers on two occasions last season and were unbeaten against their rivals in six matches.
Alves has experience playing in big matches at international and club level and will not be daunted by the challenge ahead.
Rangers need a character like Alves to come in, raise the bar and set an example to the rest of the squad.
There will be legitimate concerns about his age, but McCarthy’s comments offer some comfort to Rangers fans that Alves will still be able to make an impact.
