Rangers look set to sign another player in the very near future – and this one has been co-signed by a certain Jurgen Klopp.
According to The Daily Record, Gers boss Steven Gerrard is on the brink of bringing Leon Balogun to Ibrox.
Rangers are seemingly about to sign the 32-year-old defender on a free transfer after being released by Wigan Athletic.
Gerrard needs a replacement for Nikola Katic, who has been ruled out until the new year and, standing at 6’3, the Germany-born powerhouse might just fill that void nicely.
Balogun isn’t the most exciting player who Rangers will be signing this summer, having already taken Ianis Hagi to Glasgow on a permanent basis, but Liverpool boss Klopp is seemingly a fan.
The newly-crowned Premier League champion name-checked the Nigeria international 18 months ago ahead of Brighton – Balogun’s then-club – facing Liverpool.
Klopp said via Goal.com: “Balogun, I know from Germany as a fantastic boy to step in if he’s needed. The full-backs they are always really smart in bringing boys from wherever.”
The towering defender also used to play for Mainz, where Klopp began his managerial career, and it’ll be interesting to see if he can make his mark at Rangers, if and when the deal is announced.
