Rangers have announced a three-year partnership with their Canadian namesakes, Montreal Rangers – just days after one Celtic fan claimed one of the country’s largest sports shops had “never heard of” Steven Gerrard’s side.
Bhoys follower @btrainer73 tweeted on Tuesday: “Just been in largest sport shop in nova Scotia Celtic top $99. Asked if they sell rangers top? Server said they have never heard of them. Laughed my clock off. A big club my arse.”
But in a statement released via Rangers’ official club website on Thursday, the Ibrox side – whose midfielder, Scott Arfield, is the Canadian national team captain – confirmed the agreement, which will see coaches from Rangers Soccer Schools travel to Montreal – situated less than 500 miles west of Nova Scotia – and Montreal academy players head in the opposite direction for training.
Gary Gaul of Montreal Rangers FC added: “It’s a great feat to have come to this agreement with Rangers Soccer Schools.
“As a boy I dreamed of one day playing football in Europe. Today I’m proud to say Montreal Rangers FC have entered into a partnership with one of Europe’s most prestigious football clubs.”

Elsewhere, the legendary former Rangers player and manager Ally McCoist has told Talksport he “would have driven” the Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers to Aston Villa.
Rodgers was one of the names linked with the Villa vacancy – which has since been filled by Brentford’s Dean Smith – despite a difficult start to his third season at Celtic Park.
