Rangers first-team players returned to pre-season training on Monday as they start preparations for the new season getting started later this month, and the Ibrox side has announced a number of backroom changes across the first-team, Academy and women’s sides.
After veteran striker Jermain Defoe agreed a one-year deal to become a player/coach with the first-team, a few more new faces have arrived at Rangers in recent weeks.
Sporting director Ross Wilson unveiled the changes on the Gers’ official website as he confirmed there were still some “enhancements” to be completed at the Light Blues’ Auchenhowie training ground, telling Rangers TV: “It is great to see the players back firstly and all the staff. The training ground can be a bit of an empty period in the time leading up to pre-season anyway.
“But having everybody back now is great – this has always been a really tight squad together, so having them all back and feeling their spirit around the place is great.
“There has been a lot of work done here over the summer and the pitches are looking excellent, and there are still some enhancements being done internally inside the building as well, so the place looks great but it is great to have everyone back around it again.”
Rangers’ staff changes in full
In addition to Defoe joining the first-team coaching staff, Eamon Swift takes up a role as a rehabilitation performance coach and Adam Roberts has joined the first-team as a physio.

David McCallum has stepped up from the under-18s to lead the B team alongside Brian Gilmour, while Cameron Cambell takes sole charge of the under-18s.
Away from the men’s sides, Craig McPherson will take up a role as coach of the women’s team, working alongside manager Malky Thomson.
