Rangers wanted Angelo Fulgini but now look set to miss out on the Angers midfielder with Mainz now closing in on signing him.

The Gers have come to life in the transfer market and secured two signings last week in striker Antonio Colak and playmaker Tom Lawrence.

Winger Rabbi Matondo looks set to follow with Giovanni van Bronckhorst securing some important additions ahead of the new season.

Rangers are in the market for more additions even after Matondo, but it looks like one player will slip through the net.

Rangers wanted Angelo Fulgini

One of the names recently linked with a move to Ibrox is Angers midfielder Angelo Fulgini.

L’Equipe reported over the weekend that Rangers have submitted several bids for Fulgini in the hope of luring him to Glasgow.

Angers rejected both bids but excused Fulgini from their training camp in order to allow him to complete a transfer.

Out of contract in 2023, Fulgini is likely to be sold now rather than leave for nothing in a year.

Yet it now looks like Rangers will be missing out on Fulgini despite showing such a strong interest.

The Daily Mail report that Fulgini is on the brink of signing for Bundesliga side Mainz rather than heading to Ibrox.

Fulgini, 25, has been Angers for five years now having showed so much promise at Valenciennes.

The Ivory Coast-born ace hit five goals and four assists for Angers last season and now looks set for a bid move to Germany.

Mainz have just lost a Frenchman by selling Moussa Niakhate to Nottingham Forest but will gain one in Fulgini, who can join compatriots Anthony Caci and Ronael Pierre-Gabriel.

Rangers may still seek another versatile midfielder to replace Joe Aribo following his move to Southampton, but it seems that Fulgini is one to cross of the list of potential signings.
