Rangers' Andy Firth shares squad number change on Instagram

The Rangers goalkeeper was reunited with Steven Gerrard at Ibrox last season.

The Rangers goalkeeper, Andy Firth, has shown off his new shirt number on Instagram.

Firth joined Rangers in January from AFC Barrow, reuniting with his former Liverpool colleague, Steven Gerrard, at Ibrox.

The Yorkshireman wore 32 in his first term at Rangers, but has been bumped up to 12 – which has remained vacant for the past seven seasons – ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Posting on Instagram earlier, Firth wrote: “New season(,) New number” over a picture of his new shirt.

Firth was initially left out of Rangers’ squad for their Europa League qualifying double-header against St Joseph’s, but later replaced Jak Alnwick as Gerrard’s third choice.

The 22-year-old made his debut in Rangers’ 2-1 defeat against Kilmarnock on the final day of last season, but is only under contract at Ibrox until the end of the current campaign.
