Rangers keeper Andy Firth has signed a one-year extension to his Ibrox contract to keep him with the Gers until the end of next season – and the popular keeper called the chance to stay with the champions for another 12 months “perfect.”
Firth hasn’t kicked a ball for the first-team this season as Steven Gerrard’s side cruised to the Scottish Premiership title.
The former Liverpool youth is delighted to get the chance to continue working with Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin as he gets to focus on “things you sometimes don’t get to work on when you are playing.”
“Everyone knows how much I love being here. It has been a really special year for us and I am just happy that I can stay here for next season,” Firth told Rangers TV
“It has been brilliant for me being here and to get the chance to work with Greegsy, he is incredible and to work alongside Jon is great. For me to pick the brains of people who have been there at all different levels and to have Colin Stewart to work with is perfect.
“I have had game time in the B-Team to keep myself fresh but the work in training has been massive for me.
“The fact I am not playing has given me a chance to work on things you sometimes don’t get to work on when you are playing so it has definitely helped me a lot and I feel like I am in a good place and hopefully it will continue.”

With only one first-team appearance in his two years at the club so far, Firth isn’t likely to see much action between now and the end of the season – but his new deal does hint at renewed loan deals for the likes of Robby McCrorie next season.
